Mahoney’s Safelawns

We provide clients with lush green lawns and healthy landscapes, without relying on harsh chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. We take a proactive approach by enhancing the natural health and resistance to pests. Our services are different from other providers because we use SafeTea, a living liquid biological amendment full of beneficial micro-organisms, to rehabilitate lifeless soils. These micro-organisms will jump start your soil’s ecosystem and leave you with naturally beautiful and sustainable results.

COMPREHENSIVE ORGANIC LAWN CARE

Our Comprehensive Organic Lawn Care Program works to correct and condition soil to create a healthy, thriving lawn naturally. We use only 100% organic fertilizers to provide the essential nutrients and minerals your lawn requires to be healthy and strong throughout the growing season. Applications include our exclusive living, biological SafeTea™ with specific inoculants, organic soil conditioners, root builders, and special slow release organic fertilizers. This program is designed to balance the soil for the needs of grass plants, not weeds and pests. Pest problems are monitored, and treatments are applied if necessary, using organic control products. Our trained professionals will work with you on proper cultural practices, an important aspect of any lawn care program, as well as monitoring throughout the season for pest damage and make recommendations for treatment as necessary. The program consists of 6 application visits throughout the season, starting around mid-April (weather pending) and every 4-5 weeks through the fall. Each visit will apply fertilizer and/or soil amendments, as well as monitor for pests and treat as needed. We emphasize proper cultural practices during the season for the most success in organic care for your lawn. At each visit, we will leave recommendations for care, and we strongly encourage you to coordinate services with your landscaping company and irrigation specialist for proper care. Seeding should be done each fall (either by homeowner or hired) to keep lawn thick and improve grass variety as well as density.

HYBRID ORGANIC PROGRAM

Similar to our Comprehensive Organic Program, our hybrid program works to correct and condition soil to create a healthy, thriving lawn, but employs methods from both organic and traditional lawn programs. Applications include our exclusive living, biological SafeTea™ with specific inoculants, organic soil conditioners, root builders, and special slow release organic fertilizers, as well as NON-ORGANIC crabgrass pre-emergent in the spring, and spot treatments for weeds as needed during the season, focusing on organic methods first. A strong emphasis is placed on cultural practices and over-seeding, as these two methods together are the best way to reduce and eliminate the need for any control products whether organic or not. Dense, healthy turf is the best defense against weeds and insect attacks. With spot treatments and judicious use of weed control, environmental and health impacts are reduced. The program consists of 6 application visits throughout the season, starting around mid-April (weather pending) and every 4-5 weeks through the fall. The spring visit will include an application of crabgrass pre-emergent.

PLANT HEALTHCARE SERVICES

Insect/Disease Inspections & Control

Our trained horticulturists will inspect and treat your landscape for pests through a series of 4-6 visits throughout the growing season.

Organic Deeproot Fertiliziation

In nature, trees and shrubs are fed through the decomposition of forest litter. This benefit is not provided by the home landscape. Our deep root fertilization provides a needed feeding with nutrients and organic soil conditioners, keeping plants healthy and helping them to resist disease.

Organic Surface Bed Fertilization

Designed for ground covers and perennials, this granular humus works quickly to rebuild tired, depleted and over worked soils. The humus and minerals found in our soil conditioner supply plants with all they need to stay healthy.

Horticultural Oil Sprays for Ornamentals and Hemlocks

Many pest populations can be controlled when in their dormant stage, from late fall to early spring. We selectively apply non-toxic dormant oil to your plant material which smothers and suffocates insects and/or eggs, reducing or eliminating the need for follow-up applications. It is highly effective against the devastating Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, an introduced insect from Asia that has been killing Eastern and Canadian Hemlocks along the eastern seaboard.

Winter Evergreen Protection

Winter desiccation can kill landscape plants if the plants do not have enough moisture stored in their leaves before winter. We apply non-toxic anti-desiccant overcoat that helps protect your broadleaf and evergreen shrubs from winter burn by slowing evaporation rates by as much as 80%.

Deer Protection

Many homeowners face the challenge of discouraging deer from eating their valuable landscape plants. Our product is OMRI Certified Organic and contains 100% all natural ingredients, has no synthetic additives, is non-toxic and is safe for the environment and your family. It repels by emitting an odor that browsing animals associate with predator activity, causing them to avoid plants before they bite – not after!
